Waterfall Table
designed in 2004
This project is a twelve-foot long ash table with stainless steel ball-chain edge with a matching bench. It was designed as a winning entry for ‘Wonder Woman’ and selected from a field of entries in an international design competition sponsored by Dune, New York. I love the way the negative space around the table has been activated so diners share not only conversation and food but now there is a shared experience of the table itself as the chains respond to each diner’s movements. It reminds me of Rachel Whitereads’ “One-Hundred Spaces” where she casts the negative space underneath 100 chairs.
